Ladoix Wine

Ladoix is the appellation belonging to the village of Ladoix-Serrigny at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy. It is located just north of Beaune and directly below the eastern slopes of the Corton hill. The latter is the source of the Côte de Beaune’s only Grand Cru red wines.

The AOP applies to both red and white wines. These are made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay respectively.

The appellation was created in July 1937. The vineyards were then classified again in 1982. About a quarter of them were granted Ladoix Premier Cru status. There are no grands crus here.

The proximity to, and association with, the district’s most prestigious red wine appellation, Corton, is a major factor in the bias here towards reds. They represent around 80 percent of output.

A significant proportion of wine produced from Ladoix-Serrigny’s vineyards is sold not under the Ladoix appellation. Instead they use the less demanding regional Côte de Beaune-Villages title.

A large proportion of the village’s vineyards are covered by other appellations, notably the prestigious Corton Grand Cru and neighboring Aloxe-Corton, just to the west. This leaves Ladoix as one of the least-prolific communes of the whole region.
